Your annual machine safety check reminder

Hi [[contact.first_name|default: "there"]],

Every year, small changes happen on the shop floor. A guard gets removed for maintenance. A switch gets bypassed to keep production moving. A safety device stops working the way it should.

Individually, these changes may seem minor, but over time, they can create serious risks.

This is your yearly reminder to walk through the machinery you manage and make sure everything is still in order.

Here are a few quick checks worth doing:

✅Look for bypassed safety switches – interlocks taped down, magnets left on sensors, or wiring modifications.

✅Verify guards are still installed and secure – especially on machines that were serviced or moved.

✅Test emergency stops and interlocks – confirm they actually stop motion as intended.

✅Check for damaged light curtains, cables, or sensors.

✅Ask operators if anything “temporary” has become permanent.

You might be surprised by what shows up during a simple walkthrough.

A yearly review helps catch small issues before they turn into injuries, downtime, or compliance problems.

If you’d like help evaluating a machine or reviewing guarding solutions, our team is always happy to assist.

A classic “temporary bypass”: the interlock has been bypassed with a cable tie, and the switch installed is not suitable for the safety application. Don't wait! It's a dangerous combination that can be caught and fixed right away.

Machines can restart after a power outage, a tripped breaker, or an unplugged extension cord.

Luckily, there is a straightforward way to check whether a machine needs an anti-restart device.

  1. Start the machine and let it run normally.
  2. Turn off the main breaker or disconnect switch. This will remove the main power from the machine.
  3. Wait until the machine has come to a complete stop.
  4. Turn ON the main breaker or disconnect switch.

Now, observe the machine. Has it restarted automatically? If so, you will need an anti-restart device installed.
